NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Twelve years ago, a store belonging to Keosavanh Xayarath was robbed at gunpoint. About $300 was taken out of the register in the cash-only store.

Xayarath and his son thought they'd never see that man again.

Turns out, they were wrong.

The same man walked into the store last Friday, handed them an envelope and walked out.

"Nobody expects to get robbed, but this is totally even more unexpected," says Somboon Wu, Xayarath's son.

When Xayarath opened up the envelope, there was a note and $400 cash inside. That man admitted to robbing the store and asked the clerks for forgiveness.

"Opened it up and saw that there was money," describes Wu."[Dad] read it, and he was absolutely floored. The letter basically says, 'I'm a drug addict,' and it says '11-12 years ago and I robbed this store with a gun.'"

"You find out that he's apologizing and trying to make amends for what he did in the past, you're like, 'wow,'" describes Wu.

The store owner says he wishes the one-time thief would have stayed, as he opened the envelope, so he could thank him for his apology.

"We feel for the guy, and we hope that whatever he does after this, it's great things for him," says Wu.
