Paper towel paintings

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

When most people think of an artist standing by their easel with a pallet full of paint they usually expect to see a canvas which is about to be adorned with color.

But Ken Delmar, 72, of Stamford, Conn., does it differently.  Delmar says it all started one night when he finished painting. As he was about to turn off the lights he looked down and saw the trash bin filled with paper towels that he just cleaned his brushes with.

"The paper towels were calling out to me with these really vibrant colors jumping right off paper towels and I looked at my painting and my colors were muted," he said.

It was then that Delmar began painting on paper towels.

"So I went to supermarket and tested every brand against Bounty and I ended up going back to Bounty 'cause the consistency," he said. "When people say how long will it last? I say a long long time because Plexiglas has up and I use gel which is drier."

From regular people to celebrities, Delmar's oil paintings really are unique.

The collection is on display at the George Billis Gallery in Chelsea.
