AHWATUKEE, Ariz. -

An Ahwatukee woman a rude awakening overnight after a car slammed into her house and knocked over trees.

"I didn't discover it 'til this morning when I opened my blinds and saw my tree laying on its side," said Susan Peters.

Peters didn't know anything had happened to her neighbor's house until she woke up Saturday morning.

"I thought because of the storm, because I'm exceedingly hard of hearing, and once I take my hearing aides out, I don't hear anything," said Peters.

Little did she know, hours earlier a car came screeching through her yard and plowed into the side of her neighbor's house.

Tire tracks started at the beginning of 47th Street and led up through a yard before smashing into the side of a house.

"It was pretty crazy, really loud," said Alex Nelson.

Nelson is visiting her grandparents and heard the whole thing.

"I was getting ready for bed. I was in the bathroom and heard squealing tires and a big boom in the house, the house actually shook, the house I was in. I actually felt it rattle," said Nelson.

"This is a retirement community area, most all of us are over 55," said Peters.

Neighbors say the elderly homeowner is staying with family until they can figure out what to do with her damaged house.
