Creekside honors DeAntre Turman at opener

Posted: Updated:

It's a bittersweet start to the high school football season for the Creekside Seminoles.  They took the field for the first game of the regular season tonight, but they also honored a beloved player who died tragically in a scrimmage game two weeks ago.

DeAntre "Tre Tre" Turman died when he broke his neck during a preseason game two Fridays ago.  His classmates, teammates and coaches released 1,000 balloons in his memory before tonight's game.

Turman's teammates came to play on the field.  They nearly ran back the opening kickoff for a score-- and two plays later, they found the endzone.  And when they did, players and fans held up two fingers toward the sky in Turman's honor.

Seminoles cheerleaders and band members wore Tre Tre's number on Friday night.  Even the opposing cheerleaders from Langston Hughes wore his No. 2 on their socks.
