FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Enrollment at Northern Arizona University's main campus in Flagstaff is surging and dorms are crowded.
NAU's Mountain Campus had an enrollment of 19,032 as fall classes began Wednesday. That's up nearly by nearly 1,000 students, or 5.4%, from the fall of 2012.
Nearly half of the increase is in the freshman class.
The Arizona Daily Sun reports that more than 8,000 students are living in campus housing, with some students having to live temporarily in converted lounges and exercise rooms.
More than freshmen are living in rooms with three students at an annual saving of $1,000.
