FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) -- Police have released a new name for a suspect who is the subject of a manhunt after authorities say he stole a police vehicle in New Jersey and fled to Manhattan.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's office says the suspect they are looking for is Juan Manuel Menendez, 33. He also goes by Juan Menendez Lazaro.

Authorities said earlier he had gone by the name Eduardo Santiago Carrasquillo.

Prosecutor John Molinelli said police were conducting an investigation Friday morning at the Skyview Motel in Fort Lee when Menendez allegedly stole an unmarked police vehicle struck an officer and fled over the George Washington Bridge.

Police fired shots at the suspect but don't know if he was hit.

The suspect remained at large Friday evening. Police consider him armed and dangerous.
