Danny himself noticeably absent following car wash raids

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

It's one of the largest immigration fraud investigations ever in Arizona. The feds say managers at 16 Danny's Car Washes not only knowingly hired people in the country illegally -- but allegedly also provided them with the false IDs and social security numbers.

Since agents raided Danny's Car Washes, there's someone who's been noticeably quiet. Danny, as in Danny Hendon -- the founder of Danny's Family Car Washes.

He personally has not been accused of any wrongdoing, but he has a lot to lose if the allegations against his company are true.

13 of Danny's Car Washes were listed in the indictment. After all is said and done, he could lose all his businesses.

The namesake of Danny's Car Wash -- Danny Hendon – has been absent since news broke on Saturday that managers of some his 13 valley carwashes were falsifying documents in order to rehire illegal workers.

Danny has been well known for his philanthropic work. In fact, just last month he and his employees were able to raise $57,000 for the families of Police Officer Daryl Raetz and Firefighter Brad Harper, both killed in the line of duty in separate incidents.

Danny himself is not named in the indictment, but with a legal battle threatening his company's legacy, he has yet to publicly comment on the allegations or the indictment.

Phone calls to Danny and his lawyers have gone unanswered, and nobody answered when we paid him a visit at his Paradise Valley home.

"This is a complex case and it's not going to get resolved quickly," says legal analyst Monica Lindstrom.

Monica Lindstrom says Danny has a lot to lose. Many of his employees now face some serious charges.

"Some of those charges could carry two years in prison, 5 years, 10 years in prison so that is definitely significant."

Part of the indictment does carry a penalty regarding forfeiture, which could mean an end to Danny's Car Wash empire.

"The government can turn around, if they get convictions on it can turn around and take those businesses as part of the crime."

The 13 car washes are still operating during these legal proceedings.
