Treasured Ring Returns To Veteran's Family Sixty Years Later

Posted: Updated:

A long-lost ring, belonging to an American pilot taken prisoner during World War Two, makes its way back to his family sixty years later.

David Cox died in 1994. His family in North Carolina was shocked when they recently received a package from Germany.

Without knowing what to expect, they opened the package and saw the ring that Cox had much treasured. They say it was given to Cox by his parents on the day he graduated from flight school.

During the war as a prisoner, he was forced to trade it for food. His son says that after the war, Cox had a duplicate ring made, but it was never the same.

"I think he was very remorseful that he'd done it. And although the replica ring is every bit as detailed and inscribed exactly as the original, it still wasn't the original." says his son.

A couple in Germany found the ring and used the Internet to find the original owner.
