ATLANTA -

A fallen soldier from Griffin was honored on Saturday. CrossFit South Atlanta held its inaugural Hero Workout of the Day in memory of Army Spc. Johnathon Frank Davis.

Davis was killed in Afghanistan in March 2012. He was 20.

Vivian Gallagher Scott, the wife of Congressman Austin Scott, presided over the opening ceremony.

Davis' family was on hand, including his widow, Kristen, and young son, Benjamin.

Money raised at the event will be donated to a nonprofit group. The goal was to raise $15,000 to purchase an "Action Track Chair" for a wounded soldier.

Davis and his wife were high school sweethearts. They were married 14 months before his death. Kristen was pregnant with their first child when Spc. Davis was killed.
