Amazon.com experienced an outage for almost an hour Monday afternoon. It could have cost the company $5 million.
Reports of the online retail giant's website not loading began to appear on Twitter around 2:45 p.m. Eastern time. Many users reported the front-end of the site not loading at all. Others reported that their Amazon streaming videos were getting interrupted.
The company did not post any information on either its Facebook page or through its Twitter account. But TechCrunch posted a statement from the company: "The gateway page of Amazon.com was offline to some customers for approximately 49 minutes. Other pages of the site were accessible and AWS was not impacted."
Kickstarter.com reported that its U.S. pledges, which are processed through Amazon Payments, are not coming through.
The site NetworkWorld reported that Amazon makes about $118 million a day or about $4.9 million per hour.
