Stadium security: What is and isn't allowed

GLENDALE, Ariz. -

Saturday, the Arizona Cardinals go head-to-head with the Cowboys at University of Phoenix Stadium. And there are big security changes fans need to know about.

You'll need to leave a lot of things at home this season. A new NFL policy is going into effect. You'll no longer be able to bring large purses, bags, seat cushions, backpacks, or coolers into the stadium.

In June the NFL asked all 32 teams to take in new security policies. The idea is to keep everyone safe while speeding up the time it takes to get inside stadiums.

"Providing that level of security and also peace of mind. When people come to the stadium that's always been our number one priority, and so once again looking at this new policy reemphasizes whatever's best for the fan and gets them inside the stadium. That's the main reason for this new policy," says John Drum, VP of stadium operations.

John Drum, the Cardinals Vice President of Operations, says that while tailgating, backpacks and coolers and all bags are ok. But don't bring them to the gate.

"By going to a more clear bag it's going to speed up the process.. in the bag searches that we do before entry into the stadium."

You cannot bring a tote bag, handbag or crossbody bag. If you bring a wristlet, it has to be 4 ½ by 5 ½ inches or smaller. You can bring a clear Ziploc freezer baggie from home – or the Cardinals are selling a clear plastic tote for $10 from the team shop. If you totally forget – they will supply you with a bag at the gate.

"Whether its wallet, cell phone, keys, stuff that fits inside your pocket, no changes need to be made there."

Parents, if you're concerned that you can't bring a diaper bag and all your items won't fit in that clear plastic bag, = guest relations will have extra diapers and wipes for you.
