DETROIT (WJBK) -

Actors have spent months perfecting every move and every line all in an effort to bring Detroit a performance unlike any the city has seen before.

It is called "Shakespeare in the Park". Actors are coming together to perform one of Shakespeare's classics in the open. It happens in cities like New York and Los Angeles, and Samantha White is determined to add Detroit to that list.

"I've seen a lot of my theater friends and colleagues who have packed up and moved to Chicago or L. A. or New York," White said. "Maybe if we had something like this and more things like this, some of my friends would stay or come back."

White put together a group of accomplished actors to perform "Othello". The intricate costumes were hand made by Detroit costume designer Cal Schwartz. The show will happen downtown in Grand Circus Park Wednesday at 7 p.m., and unlike most Shakespeare performances, it is free for everyone.

"We're on the bus line. You can walk here or even take a cab ride to get here, and you don't have to go into your pocket," White said.

"Doing things like this 'Shakespeare in the Park' in the center of town is just the proof that there is an artistic life blood that will not go away," said actor Dennis Kleinsmith.

"I always tell people don't be afraid of the language because even though the language is different and the clothes are different, humankind is the same. For example, Iago is extremely upset because Michael Cassio, who is less experienced than him, got the promotion that he was going for, and I think everybody can relate to that," White said. "The miscommunication between Desdemona and Othello, I think a lot of people can relate to being in a relationship where the communication just isn't that great."

Hopefully, performances like this will serve as further proof that art is alive and well in Detroit.

White is also working to bring a Shakespeare theater program to Detroit Public Schools.
