A popular spot Brooklyn Park got a new feature to make it more accessible to disabled veterans over the weekend thanks to a group of volunteers who decided to build a dock at the freshly-stocked fish pond.
Before the local Home Depot sent a squad of more than 30 volunteers along with some supplies, it was tough to even walk down to the fishing hole. For a veteran in a wheelchair, it was an extra challenge.
Now, a new dock is almost completed. That means the pond near the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center, which was just filled with blue gills and sun fish, will soon be a lot easier to enjoy for those who are wheel-chair bound.
The father and son team, Jeff and Daniel Stockdill, told FOX 9 News they felt making sure the dock was open to all was the least they could do, especially since Americans are still overseas.
Volunteers hope to finish the work by the end of the week so that veterans like Bob Hopp can enjoy the pond, and the fishing, with the rest of the community.
