52 people have been sickened by e. Coli outbreak that apparently originated at Federico's, according to Maricopa County health officials.
18 people have had to be hospitalized due to their reaction from the bacteria. Two suffered kidney failure.
MCDPH says the outbreak appears to be linked to the Federico's Mexican restaurant at 13132 W. Camelback Road in Litchfield Park. People with illnesses reported eating at the restaurant July 23 or 24.
Officials haven't yet determined what it was that they ate that was likely contaminated. It takes anywhere from three to 10 days after eating contaminated food for the illness to set in. The illness typically runs its course within a week unless people are hospitalized with kidney failure.
So far, two lawsuits have been filed in regards to the contamination. The restaurant has since been closed.
