CEDARTOWN, Ga. -

The father of two children involved in a deadly rollover crash near Cedartown says the man accused abandoning the scene of the accident should pay dearly for his crime.

Trent Brooks, 6, and his 5-year-old sister, Gabby, were in a car allegedly driven by their mother's boyfriend, Robert Wood, on Sunday. The car suddenly slammed into an embankment off of Tallapoosa Highway and flipped two times.

Police said Wood, 42, left the two injured children on the side of the road and fled from the scene.

Trent died before he got to the hospital, while Gabby is fighting for her life in a Tennessee hospital.

The children's family said they are doing their best to cope with the loss of Trent, while trying to remain strong for Gabby.

"He was a loving and caring little boy. He loved everybody. He's not going to be able to live his life with his sister," said Connie Brooks, the kids' aunt.

After a 12-hour manhunt, police found Wood. He's being held at Polk County Jail.

"He left those two babies there to die, so he needs to die," said Connie Brooks.

The children's father, Robert Brooks said, "Even if he didn't mean to, even if it was an accident...even  if he was messed up or not messed up, it's my son who got killed."

The adults got matching tattoos in Trent's memory. Trent and Gabby's cousins all made matching bracelets that say "RIP Trent".

Robert Brooks says that because Trent loved mud trucks, he will be placed in one for his funeral on Saturday.

Robert, with some help from friends and family, plans to dig his son's grave by hand.

"When I do dig it, it's going to be like me and him," Robert Brooks said. "If my little girl was there, she'd be helping me dig the hole too."

The family was hoping Gabby would be out of the hospital in time to attend Trent's funeral, but it appears that she may be in for at least another week.

The family has set up a fund to help cover Trent's funeral costs and Gabby's medical expenses. Donations can be made to the "Trent A. Brooks Memorial Fund" at Regions Bank.

FOX 5's Denise Dillon reports that because Trent loved motorcycles and Monster Mud Trucks, his family is encouraging anyone with a street legal vehicle like that to join the funeral procession from Cedartown to Aragon.
