A valley swim school is offering free weekly swimming lessons for infants birth to 6-months-old. Swimkids offers 30 minute parent-tot classes that focus on parent and child bonding, basic water safety skills and building a child's confidence in the water. According to the school, infants between the ages of 2 to 6 months can start developing a healthy relationship with the water, build a foundation for water safety and learn floating skills. Formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among 1 to 4-year-old children, according to a study in 2009 at the National Institute of Health. Is your infant too old for their free classes? Lessons for babies ages seven to 24 months are $70 a month.
