NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in New Brunswick say a crackdown on prostitution has resulted in several arrests, including one woman who was arrested twice in the same day.

The New Brunswick Police Department said Friday that an undercover sting operation targeting "street-walking" prostitutes had resulted in the arrest of seven women and one man on prostitution-related charges.

Police say one woman who was arrested during the sting in the early afternoon was arrested a second time in the early evening after being released from police custody and returning to the same area to resume her earlier activities.

A spokesman for the department says the sting operation was in response to resident's complaints about prostitution activities in the area of Commercial Avenue and George Street in New Brunswick.
