NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Emergency crews scrambled twice on Thursday to assist a planes at Newark-Liberty International Airport following reports of smoke conditions.

The second plane landed safely about an hour after another plane landed safely after reporting smoke inside the cockpit shortly after takeoff.

No one was hurt in either incident.

The first plane, United Airlines Express Flight 4980 from Pittsburgh, was safely evacuated at about 11:15 a.m. according to Port Authority officials.

Passengers were taken off of the plane as a precaution and taken to the terminal via buses.  United says the passengers were put onto a different aircraft for their flight to Pittsburgh.

The DeHavilland DH-8 turbo-prop plane was towed from the 4-Right runway.  The airline says that maintenance crews were inspecting the plane.

The Republic Airlines plane was operating as a United Express flight.

All the runways at Newark-Liberty remained open, but there were delays reported due to the incident.  Flight 4980 had taken off from Newark-Liberty when it returned a short time later because of the reported smoke condition.

The second flight was allowed to land and taxi to the terminal.
