Ford Field adopts more restrictive bag policy

DETROIT (WJBK) -

There are new rules about what kinds of bags people will be allowed to bring into Ford Field.

The changes stem from a new NFL policy. Backpacks and most bags and purses and now prohibited.

What will be allowed are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags, which must be 12" x 6" x 12" or smaller, and one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags, according to the Detroit Lions.

"I think we can get people into the building faster. When they can screen clear bags or no bags at all, that should make the lines move faster, and people will be moving faster into an environment that will be safer," said Tom Lewand with the team.

Women can bring a small clutch purse, but it must be the size of your hand.

If you come to Ford Field to see Kid Rock or any show or concert, the Lions are adopting this new NFL policy for all events.

In fact, Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor and Spartan Stadium in East Lansing already have no bags for fans policies in place. The difference is those venues do not allow the clear plastic bags.
