10 things you wouldn't know if it weren't for SEC Media Days

Last week, I had the opportunity to finally cover THE circus. Yes, THE SEC Media Days. College football really gets my juices flowing, and I couldn't wait to get to Hoover, Alabama.

Some fellow media members I talked to before the "circus," told me one of two things: A) "I'm glad I'm not going," or B) "You won't be able to get out of there fast enough."

When all was said and done, I had fun at the "circus."

But, let's be honest here. As media members, we have some basic storylines to go by upon getting to Hoover. Unless something breaks right before that week (i.e., Johnny Football leaving Manning Passing Academy early the weekend before), there isn't a whole lot to talk about. It's essentially an unofficial kickoff to the college football season, a pre-party to get the ball rolling! (And hey, I won't turn down a chance to start up THIS party!)

With all that said, I'd like to present you with (drum roll please) … TEN THINGS WE WOULD HAVE NEVER LEARNED IF IT WEREN'T FOR SEC MEDIA DAYS (THANK GOODNESS):

1)     This is an obligatory #1. Johnny Manziel overslept the morning he left the Manning camp. He won't say what happened the night before, won't say he was drinking. I think that answers all of our questions about that night honestly. Now, can we all just quit this and focus on football? Seriously.

2)      Aaron Murray is not scared of the big, bad Jadeveon Clowney, despite the Gamecocks star defensive end saying so. Murray responded Thursday ,saying, "He misused the word ‘scared.' I have a lot of respect for him."

If he's not scared of the potential no. 1 pick in next year's NFL draft, then who is Murray scared of? UGA tight end Arthur Lynch has the answer: his mother.

3)      Steve Spurrier wants Notre Dame to man up and play football in a conference. Earlier in the year, the Head Ball Coach said all 14 of the SEC's head coaches agreed Notre Dame should play football in a conference. "Notre Damers can get mad at me and us coaches for saying that … but from the rest of us that are in conferences, we say, 'Why aren't they in a conference?' It's hard to figure out why."

You tell ‘em, Coach!

4)      Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin likes to "Jedi-mind trick" people to buying into what the university offers. Every opportunity he gets to speak at an event, he's there... Jedi-mind tricking people. Watch out for this guy.

5)      Johnny Manziel is also not scared of the big, bad Jadeveon Clowney. Not scared of him in "any way shape or form." Though, the only way these two meet is in the SEC Championship game. Any takers?

6)      LSU head coach Les Miles talks "Australian." In his opening statement, Miles discussed returning players on the Tigers squad and had this to say: "Jamie Keehn, our second Australian punter. Again, you have to learn the language. You just can't speak to those guys. You have to know how to speak Australian."

!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Les, you are amazing and thank you always for your kick-butt quotes.

7)      New Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema is no jokester. Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn thought Bielema was "joking" when the latter brought up the concern for no-huddle offenses. Bielema is all for safety in the sport, and was not happy about Malzahn's comments.

"He thought it was a joke? Huh? I'm not a comedian. Everything I say is what I truly believe in."

Touche, Coach. Stick to your day job.

8)      Florida head coach Will Muschamp wants Ohio State to mind their own P's and Q's. During the offseason, a former Gators assistant was turned in by someone at OSU for a secondary NCAA violation.

"We appreciate our friends from Ohio making sure we follow NCAA rules. They certainly know something about NCAA rules."

Ohhhhhhhh, burnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. That's a good one, Coach.

9)      Former Oconee High star and current LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger is tired of hearing about Alabama, already.

Reporter: "Zach, are you sick of Alabama winning everything?"
Mettenberger: "Aren't you?"

10)   Speaking of ‘Bama, this guy really does exist:

This national championship hat is worth $300 according to reports. WOW.

I think I'd rather pay that kind of money to see an actual game…

Hey, huge shout out to the Volunteers' Jacques Smith, too. After his Q&A in the Internet/Radio room, he came over and shook every media members' hands. Classy move, man!
