Gruesome Basement Crime Scene, But No Body Found Yet

PHILADELPHIA -

A Strawberry Mansion home is at the center of a gruesome investigation. It's a mystery that has left the neighborhood in shock. We want to warn you: the details of this story are disturbing.

Police at Central Detectives are still searching for a body of a victim and the man who may have been responsible for that bloody crime scene, FOX 29's Chris O'Connell reported Thursday night.

The mystery has the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood on edge.

"I had no idea that someone was mutilated in the basement," said Shea Bentley, who lives just next door to the North 32nd Street row home. "I'm disgusted. I'm ready to move."

Only FOX 29 News was there when police searched the home where crime scene investigators found pools of blood in the basement,

We're told before the morning garbage pickup someone contacted police to report bloody clothing in the trash on the street.

Investigators spent hours poring over clothes, bloody sheets, gloves, duct tape and a bottle of bleach.

Sources tell us investigators believe the person police are looking for may have used an ax to dismember a body.

They believe the victim may have been a prostitute.

"Wow, like what is that, another Jeffrey Dahmer of Philadelphia or something?" asked Darryl Hayes, of Strawberry Mansion.

Neighbors tell us a woman lives here with her children, her mother and brother. None of them were hurt and no one was at the home most of the day.

But people who live nearby say the mystery is mounting.

"My heart is like really trembling right now because when I first got the phone call I was worried about my friend and her kid," said Ebony Moore, of Strawberry Mansion.

Nearby resident Tyrone Nunnely called it "very, very disturbing," adding, "I hope they catch whoever did this to this guy."

Sources tell us the person of interest in this case has at least nine prior arrests, including two charges for rape.

Right now, there's a citywide search to find him. A source told O'Connell around 10 p.m. Thursday night that investigators are close.
