Trayvon Martin mural to be completed with Skittles at vigil

They have become a fixture in a high profile case. 17-year-old Trayvon Martin bought a pack of Skittles and an iced tea before an altercation that cost him his life.

George Zimmerman was found not guilty of his murder under Florida's stand your ground and self-defense laws.

"Regardless of what you believe the outcome should or shouldn't have been, we have the death of a child," said artist Sean Murphy.

He said the verdict inspired him to create a painting of Martin, the first he has finished in more than 25 years.

"When you're moved, you have to move," Murphy said.

However, it will take at least 50 pounds of Skittles to complete the masterpiece. That is where you come into the picture.

Murphy is calling his Martin memorial a pixel vigil. He wants people to grab a Skittle and glue it to the painting until the picture is clear. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Detroit, located at 13031 Chandler Park Drive. Click here for more information.

You could also help paint a 60 foot replica of that Martin painting. The problem is Murphy does not know where he wants to put it yet, so he is asking people to geotag suitable walls around the city and put those pictures on his Facebook page.
