DETROIT (WJBK) -

A Wayne County circuit judge ruled Monday that Mike Duggan can run as a write-in candidate for Detroit mayor in the August primary.

"I'm glad that the vote is where it should be, which is back in the hands of the people, and hopefully now we can put the side issues behind us. We have three weeks left, and we really need to talk about what we got to do to bring the city back from bankruptcy and get the police to show up, get the streetlights on and get the abandoned buildings dealt with, and I hope I can spend the next three weeks talking about those things," Duggan said.

Last month, Duggan was disqualified from appearing on the ballot. The courts ruled he had not lived in the city for the required one year before filing to run.

However, the state elections director said the City Charter only requires that write-in candidates file by the deadline of July 26. Duggan filed on July 1.
