Derrick Rose: I will `definitely` be playing preseason opener

Posted: Updated:

Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose told reporters in Spain Monday that he will return to the court for the preseason opener, according to HoopsHype.com.

"I should be able to play in the first game of season," Rose reportedly said. "I know I'm anxious right now to play. My health is everything right now, it's 100 percent. But right now, the first game... I will definitely be playing it."

Rose took criticism for not playing since he crumbled to the court near the end of the 2012 playoff opener against Philadelphia, sending the top-seeded Bulls to a first-round exit. He had surgery on May 12 that year.

In an interview this month on the Bull's website, Rose said he had to be selfish in his rehab as he tried to work his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and that sitting out was "one of the hardest things" he's experienced.

He also said fans will understand it was "the right decision" when they see him back on the court.
