HIGHLANDS, N.J. (AP) -

Officials from the United Arab Emirates have made a sizeable donation to the charity founded by Gov. Chris Christie's wife to help those impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

The $4.5 million gift from the UAE embassy will be used for repairing and enhancing technology infrastructure at public schools in nine districts impacted by the storm.

The Christies and the UAE's ambassador to the United States made the announcement Monday morning at Highlands Elementary School.

Mary Pat Christie has said the fund is designed to help people with needs not covered by government aid or insurance. It has brought in $38 million in donations from 29,000 people so far.

Rocker Jon Bon Jovi donated $1 million to the fund last week.

The embassy also donated to New York City schools.
