Flooding threat, dam monitored in southeast Ga

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Authorities are warning of flooding and a potential dam failure in southeast Georgia.

Chatham County emergency managers say an 80-acre pond in Screven County is overloaded and could fail at any time.

The Savannah Morning News reported Saturday that residents along the Ogeechee River could be affected, and water already is being released into the stream.

Some residents already are being urged to evacuate.

Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller says officials are working to identify all the areas that could be affected.
