Mr. Bigshot is back.

Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars says the team has agreed on a two-year contract with former point guard Chauncey Billups.

The deal is worth $2.5 million a year, with the first season guaranteed.

Billups, 36, led the Pistons to an NBA title in 2004 and was named the NBA Finals MVP. He was traded from Detroit to hometown Denver Nuggets during the 2008-09 season in exchange for Allen Iverson.

Billups will join a Pistons backcourt that includes 21-year-old Brandon Knight,  30-year-old Will Bynum and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the No. 8 overall pick in this year's draft.

The news comes a day after Dumars officially announced a $54 million, four-year contract with free agent Josh Smith.

Detroit desperately needed to sign one of the top free agents because the franchise is mired in a four-year postseason drought, its longest since missing six straight from 1978 through 1983.
