CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Chicago man has been charged with the Fourth of July shooting of a 7-year-old boy who was celebrating the holiday with his family at a South Side park when he was struck in the neck by two stray bullets.

Marshan D. Bradley, 21, was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm for the attack, which occurred at Cole Park about 7:25 p.m. last Thursday, Chicago Police said in a release.

The boy had been with family members and friends in the Chatham neighborhood park, 361 E. 85th St., when a man began shooting, police said. The shooter left the park in a vehicle, officials said.

Some witnesses said they saw a car circling the park before someone got out and opened fire.

Police said they do not believe the youngster was the intended target. The youngster was near alleged gang members when he was shot, police said.

The boy was released from Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn on July 5, according to family.

Bradley, of the 10900 block of South Vincennes Avenue, was scheduled to appear in court on July 16.
