PHOENIX - A former Maricopa County sheriff's deputy charged with aiding drug and immigrant smugglers while he worked for the agency has been ordered jailed until trial after authorities say he was pulled over more than three months ago while driving a suspected immigrant smuggling vehicle.
Alfredo Aguirre Navarrette had been released for about 18 months after his arrest, but a June 25 decision by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Karen O'Connor revoked the former officer's bond.
The judge ruled Navarrette violated the terms of his release.
Still, Navarrette wasn't arrested in the March 29 stop.
Navarrette and two former Maricopa County sheriff's detention officers were arrested in May 2011 on charges that they aided smugglers. They are Marcella M. Hernandez and Sylvia Rios Najera.
The three no longer work for the agency and have pleaded not guilty to charges against them.
