Progress made in containing wildfire near Tucson

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Aided by rain, firefighters have made substantial progress against a wildfire in the Santa Catalina Mountains overlooking Tucson.

Fire managers report 50% containment of the Prison Fire, which has burned 240 acres as of Tuesday.

Lightning started the fire Sunday. It's burning in grass and trees.

Rain monitors indicate that the fire received over six-tenths of an inch of rain Monday evening.

The fire is named after the site of a World War II prisoner of war camp.
