4 Killed In 2 Separate Small Plane Crashes In California

Oxnard, CA -

(FOX 11 / AP) Authorities say four people were killed Saturday in two separate small plane crashes in Southern California.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says a home-built Less Drag Special plane crashed in an Oxnard field around noon, killing two people aboard. The Ventura County Star reports the plane was in pieces and little of it was recognizable.

The wreckage was a mile and a half from the Oxnard Airport.

Further south near the U.S.-Mexico border, two people were killed when their glider plane nose-dived into the ground at the Jacumba (yuh-KOOM-bah) Airport. The crash was reported about 12:30 p.m.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Capt. Mike Mohler says rescue crews pulled both victims from the wreckage and confirmed their deaths.

The NTSB will investigate the cause of both crashes.
