Charles Pugh has reportedly been in contact with staff member

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Once again, Charles Pugh was noticeably absent from the Detroit City Council table on Friday.

There was no discussion about Pugh's mysterious disappearance or what will happen now that he has been stripped of his powers and salary by Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr. However, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing did talk about it with reporters.

"My message is that you were elected to represent the people, and regardless of what personal issues that he's going through, he needs to come in and do his job. If he's not coming back, then he needs to let people know that so the rest of the council can get on with their business," he said.

Bing went on to say he is not sure if there is any truth to the allegations swirling around Pugh, and he wishes him the best.

Friday afternoon, I exchanged Facebook messages with Pugh's chief of staff. She said another staff member has heard from Pugh directly. She also said it was her last day on the job because her contract expired, and several of Pugh's staff members have been terminated. They got letters saying it was due to budget cuts.

Pugh's city-owned vehicle is still in its spot at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center where we saw a staff member park it Thursday afternoon. Technically, he still holds his elected position.

We tried to reach one of Pugh's close family members at a house in Southgate and stopped at Pugh's condo in Detroit, but got no answer at either location.

All of this comes as the mother of a student who was part of Pugh's mentoring program prepares to file a lawsuit claiming Pugh bought her son gifts and even took him out of school without her permission. Her lawyer said text messages will back up the claims, which include sexual harassment.
