West Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) Two people were killed this morning when a disabled vehicle was rear-ended by a big rig on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Hawthorne, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 2:51 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway at Rosecrans Avenue, according to CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.

The big rig overturned after hitting the other vehicle, Kimball said. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to a hospital, said Rey Dong, supervising dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fatal freeway crash was the second in Los Angeles County in less than two hours. One person was killed in a head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Santa Monica around 1:15 a.m., according to the CHP.

A male suspect was arrested just before 3 a.m. following that crash, Kimball said. The charges he may face were not immediately revealed.

(FOX 11 / CNS) One person was killed this morning in a head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Santa Monica, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 1:15 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway at Centinela Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball. A male suspect was arrested just before 3 a.m., Kimball said. The charges he may face were not immediately revealed.

At least three cars were involved in the crash. One vehicle caught fire and another went over the side of the freeway, a news photographer reported from the scene.

All lanes of the westbound side of the freeway were closed in the vicinity of the collision and traffic was diverted at Bundy Drive, Kimball said.

The crash left the freeway strewn with debris from the wrecked vehicles and a covered body was visible on the pavement. The crash preceded by less than two hours a fatal wreck on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Hawthorne that killed two people and injured two others,

An NYPD plan intended to better connect with the community seems to have backfired. The police department asked its Twitter followers to share pictures of themselves with New York City police officers using the hashtag "myNYPD." Some did share nice pictures, but others decided to not "play nice, " sharing beating photos and more.
