Pa. State Rep. Barred From Speaking On DOMA Wants Colleague Censured

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

One day after the Supreme Court's historic rulings on same sex marriage, two Pennsylvania lawmakers announced they were taking up the charge for marriage equality rights.

The state representatives from Philadelphia plan to introduce a bill to allow gay marriage.

However, the bill won't force religious organizations to perform or recognize same-sex unions.

One of the sponsors, state Rep. Brian Sims represents parts of Center City and is the first openly-gay member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

He's now asking the state House of Representatives to censure a colleague who prevented him from making floor remarks about the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA.

State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, from western Pennsylvania, told a radio station that Sims' comments would have been "open rebellion against God's law."
