The storms began moving into the southwestern part of the FOX 5 viewing area on Friday afternoon, bringing down trees in some areas.

While the severe thunderstorm warnings had expired as of 7:30 p.m., FOX 5 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Ken Cook said some more storms flared up later in the evening. The bigger storms were south of the metro Atlanta area. Those storms were not expected to be as strong as the ones seen earlier in the day.

Saturday should be partly cloudy, with highs in the upper 80s, Ken said. Some areas could see isolated showers on Sunday.

ORIGINAL POST:

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. for the following counties: Randolph, Heard, Troup, Coweta, Meriwether, Pike, and Upson.

Milone also says another cluster of storms is approaching from Tennessee, and another watch is possible later today.

On Thursday, storms started popping up after 3 p.m., and they continued through much of the night.  The FOX 5 Storm Team received reports of downed trees, hail, strong winds and lots of lightning.  They diminished and pushed south overnight.

Like yesterday, Milone says the main threats for the FOX 5 viewing area are gusty winds and hail, but any storm can bring frequent lighting and heavy rain.  Most of the storms should get started in far west Georgia after 3-5 p.m., but spotty thunderstorms will continue through about midnight.

The Storm Prediction Center says north Georgia is at a slight risk for severe weather Friday.
