2 homes catch fire; families escape

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

Firefighters responded to not one, but two house fires overnight -- right next door to each other.

Around 3 a.m. Monday, smoke detectors went off inside the home near 48th Street and Warner.  The mother and father woke up, got their two teenage children out of the house, along with an overnight house guest.

Five people in all were inside the home and they all made it out safely.  The house was a total loss.

The attic was fully involved and the flames spread to a second home next door.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Video: FOX 10's Diane Ryan reports from the scene.
