A 15-year-old watching NBA Finals postgame coverage in South Florida was struck by what local police say was likely celebratory gunfire following the Miami Heat's title win.

Days later, Brandon Reid is not only recovering and in good spirits, but he'll also get to be a part of Monday's parade to celebrate the Heat's back-to-back NBA titles.

Reid – a student at Norcross High School – says he was watching Heat basketball players celebrate their world championship Thursday when a bullet suddenly shot through his mother's sliding glass door and grazed his skull just behind his right ear.

Reid told reporters Saturday that it felt like a rock hit him.

"I've never felt, you know, the pain of being hit by a bullet before, so I thought it was a rock. But, then when I realized I had my hand, like, behind my head, I seen blood," Reid said.

Reid said the incident sent his mother into a panic, so he called his father back in Norcross and then 911.

"I couldn't even, you know, hold the phone right. So, I had to dial it for her and then, you know, my brother, he helped me out," Reid said.

Police say they think the bullet came from celebratory gunfire prompted by the Heat's win. South Florida authorities routinely warn people about the dangers of firing into the air to celebrate holidays or other occasions.

Doctors treating Reid Miami say his recovery is well on its way. They said Reid was very fortunate that the bullet struck one of the thickest parts of the skull.

Reid is from the Atlanta area and was visiting his mother in Miramar. His doctors say he'll make a full recovery.
