(WJBK) -

A deaf child in North Carolina can now hear.

Three-year-old Grayson Clamp was born without the nerve that carries sound from the inner ear to the brain. But with the help of a new device he is finally able to process sound.

The device uses a microchip in his brain.

Staff at the University of North Carolina hospital taped the boy hearing his dad's voice for the first time. Click the video player to watch his amazing reaction.

Grayson's speech is delayed and his device will need some work, but the procedure is considered groundbreaking.
