Two valley veterans in need have been given new cars.
“It’s just amazing I'm speechless,” says Lynnette Maynard, Air Force veteran.
Lynnette Maynard gave four years to the Air Force, and now her military family is giving her something she desperately needs.
“The VA does great for the men and they are trying really really hard to fill in the gaps but we have realized Syleste that the only way to do it is for a woman veteran to help out another woman veteran,” says Mary Ann Derry-Berry, of Daisy Mtn. Veterans Post.
It'll help Maynard get to school. She’s studying to become a chef and attends classes at the Art Institute of Phoenix.
“I have a class next semester from 7 p.m. to midnight. Buses don’t run that late, makes it possible for me to do that.”
Lynnette will be able to get to school. Marine Veteran Rachel Gutierrez is the other recipient, and she'll be able to get a job.
“Someone thought of me and it’s just really thoughtful and generous and I just really appreciate it,” says Gutierrez. “I’m a veteran of the VA Post and my commander submitted. I had no idea, just got a phone call that I was going to get a new vehicle.”
“They will both pay back and give back to the community, it’s just wonderful,” says Derry-Berry.
Lynnette and Rachel were picked by Progressive Insurance after local veteran agencies nominated them.
