Westchester man charged with rape of 11-year-old girl

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - Police in Westchester County say a landscaper has been charged with raping a girl for 5 years, starting when she was 11 years old.

The Journal News says Jose Chavez of New Rochelle was arrested Monday evening.

Police say the girl, who's now 16, told her mother on Monday.

Chavez is charged with five counts of third-degree rape, one count of second-degree course of sexual conduct, and child endangerment.

The name of his attorney was not immediately known.

Andrew Cuomo that he will investigate his administration for possible obstruction of justice or witness tampering in connection with the Moreland anti-corruption commission. The NY Times reports the letter from Preet Bharara says, in part: "Some commissioners have been asked to issue public statements characterizing events and facts regarding the commission's operation."
