NYC woman's Internet research helps find suspect in dad's murder

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The daughter of a restaurant owner murdered in 1986 never gave up on finding her dad's killer. After her own Internet searches and help from detectives, police have finally captured a suspect.

Joselyn Martinez's father, Jose Martinez, was shot and killed outside his restaurant on Dyckman Street in Inwood after he rushed to his wife's aid.

Joselyn said she could never forget her father, who died when she was 9. She said that out of frustration she started doing internet searches and found out some information about the alleged killer, which she turned over to the 34th precinct detectives, who had been staying in touch with her over the years. They gave it to the cold case squad.

Now Justo Santos of Miami is finally in custody.

The NYPD said detectives are getting the legal papers done so they can go to Miami and pick up Santos.

If the case goes to trial, Joselyn said she is planning to face him in court.

A Brooklyn woman who is seven months pregnant released photos that she said show an NYPD officer putting her in a choke hold as she was being arrested for grilling on the sidewalk outside her home.  Rosean Miller was arrested for disorderly conduct on Saturday and her husband Moses was arrested for obstructing government business, a criminal charge. It's the latest in a string of reported choke holds by police officers. The move is not allowed under NYPD policy.

Making New York City more energy efficient

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
