MESA, Ariz. -

A woman's body was found in a trailer park near Loop 202 and Main Street late Monday night and the Maricopa County Sheriff's office says this case is a homicide.

According to MCSO, a man called 911 stating that he had just killed his girlfriend.

Deputies rushed to the home to find 45-year-old Maria Gomez.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

As it turns out, the caller was 34-year-old Jose Gonzales Esparza.  He admitted to authorities that he hit Gomez's face with a baseball bat eight times and punched her at least four times before that.

MCSO says Esparza did attempt to hide from deputies during the investigation, but they were able to find him shortly after arriving at the scene.

"I hope they do justice to the guy and I hope there's not more of that that goes on around here," said William Perry, who lives in the neighborhood.

Deputies say Esparza and Gomez were together for at least two years.  They had no prior records of any domestic violence.

Esparza was taken into custody.

This is a developing story.  Stay with FOX 10 News for updates.
