PHOENIX -

Phoenix police have made an arrest in a hit and run case that resulted in the death of an 11-year-old boy.

Residents of the Fountain Head Apartments near 35th Avenue and Indian School heard the cries for help just before 8 p.m. Saturday night.

The mother of Enoc Quijada was distraught after her son was hit and dragged by a silver Isuzu sport utility vehicle. Moments later, the SUV crashed into a cinder block wall.

According to authorities, the driver helped pull Enoc from under the SUV, but then walked away from the scene and didn't return.

Police say evidence indicates the driver failed to remove his security club from the steering wheel before he backed out of a parking spot, so he couldn't brake or steer.  They believe it was a contributing factor in the accident.

Sgt. Steve Martos says 32-year-old Mabior Ding turned himself in Tuesday morning.

Quijada was transported to an area hospital after the crash, but died after arriving.

Ding arraigned on the charges and his bond was set at $100,000.
