Sheriff's deputies have arrested 15 people suspected of being in the country illegally after a traffic stop.
Deputies stopped a Dodge Caravan Wednesday and arrested 15 people from Guatemala and Mexico.
The suspects admitted to paying up to $4,500 to be smuggled into the United States. They crossed the border into Arizona near Alter and Mexicali before their vehicle was stopped in northern Maricopa County.
The suspects said their final destinations were Tennessee or North Carolina.
Seven people were booked into the 4th Ave Jail on felony human smuggling charges. The remaining eight, including two unaccompanied juveniles from Guatemala, were turned over to ICE.
In the past six weeks, sheriff's deputies have made 93 human smuggling arrests.
