An autistic man was allegedly branded with a potato masher while living at a group home in the Bronx.
Eduardo Sandoval lived in the Leake and Watts Group Home on East 211th Street when the incident is alleged to have taken place.
His mother, Mayra Sandoval, is suing the home and two former employees for negligence over the incident. A lawyer for the family says that the victim has permanent scars from the incident.
The attack allegedly took place in June. The family says a staffer at the home heated up the potato masher and branded the man on his back and side. Sandoval, 24, has the mental capacity of a toddler and was incapable of identifying the attacker.
Fernando Mateo, president of Hispanics Across America, is calling for Gov. Cuomo to order an investigation. He is also asking District Attorney Robert Jackson to investigate and prosecute all involved.
"Branding and labeling are very painful practices used on animals not humans," Mateo says.
The New York City Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating Jeremiah Behling. He was reported missing on December 7, 2013 from within the confines of the 46th Precinct. Jeremiah is a 14 year old Black male, 5'11", 170 pounds, last seen in the vicinity of 310 West 128th Street, in the Bronx.
