SOUTHGATE, Mich. (WJBK) -

Gary Krupczak stops by his parents' home in Southgate several times a day to take care of his dad's dog, Buddy.

"Can't hear too well, can't see too well, but he's been a faithful companion," he said.

Buddy has been home alone for the past couple of months, ever since Gary's mother passed away. His dad, Ed, a World War II veteran, had already moved away to assisted living.

"My father, who had a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars, he fought with the 45th Infantry Division, U.S. Army," Gary said.

Ed is a hero, but he is 88. 14-year-old Buddy, a rescue dog, is getting up in age, as well. Ed misses him.

"He talks about him all the time," Gary said. "A few times he has mentioned that he wanted to come home and care for him, but health wise he's really not able to do that."

Gary can't take Buddy to his house because his own dog is not dog-friendly. So, buddy sits at home, alone, for much of the day.

Now that there is nobody living in the house except for Buddy, the place will be going on the market. That means the sweet, little dog can't stay.

"Rather than have to have him put down, I'd like somebody out there that would be interested in trying to help him," Gary said. "To me, he's iconic. He belongs to a World War II hero, so-called Detroit's greatest generation, and there must be someone out there that would say, hey, you know what, we're going to take him and do what we can for him."

If you think you can help, contact Gary at (734) 285-4787 or gary.krupczak@comcast.net.
