MESA, Ariz. -

Firefighters say a hoarder's home near Guadalupe Road and Loop 101 caught fire early Wednesday morning.

According to fire crews, they had a difficult time getting the fire under control because the home was packed with stuff from floor to ceiling, including the garage.

"The number one thing we do as firefighers is life safety...so when you have your access through the house impeeded by such an amount of materials, then it becomes difficult for us to do that," said Mesa Fire Capt. Forrest Smith.

The owner of the Mesa home wasn't there, but his brother was home and was treated for smoke inhalation.

Mesa, Scottsdale, Chandler and Gilbert firefighters were called to battle the flames. Most of the home was destroyed once firefighters were finally able to control it. A truck next to the home also caught fire.

Neighbors told FOX 10 they heard multiple explosions come from the home and were worried it would spread to others, but firefighters were able to contain the fire.
