Assistant principal challenges teachers to get into shape

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -

For many, it's hard to get motivated to workout without a personal trainer, and not everyone can afford a personal trainer. An assistant principal at North Clayton Middle School came up with a solution, and the teachers are getting a whole lot more than just a workout.

The popular workout they do is called Insanity – 41 minutes of interval training that pushes the body. Four afternoons a week inside the gym at the school, teachers and administrators end their day with an extreme workout, and at the same time they get to know each other, all thanks to assistant principal Lawrence Yarbrough.

"They're always talking about, we need to lose some weight, we need to lose some weight. So I thought what better team building idea than to do Insanity," said Yarbrough.

The results after six weeks?

"I've had several people stop and say, ‘Wow Jones, Dr. Jones, you really look good now. You're looking better. What can I say," said technology teacher Leavernard Jones

Yarbrough says that over the last six weeks, about a third of the staff has participated regularly.  He says next semester he wants to bump that number up to two-thirds, and by the end of next year, he'd like to see the whole staff on board.

The invitation is open to students and their parents as well.
