Closing arguments to begin in Scottsdale DUI case

Updated:
PHOENIX -

Hundreds of DUI cases in the city of Scottsdale are in danger of being thrown out.

Closing arguments are expected to begin Friday at 10 a.m. in a case that accuses the Scottsdale Police Department of using faulty equipment to blood test drivers accused of DUI.

Four valley attorneys are representing about 11 defendants in the case.

The attorneys are accusing the department of using a machine that gives faulty blood test results.

The machine has been in use since 2009, and is still being used to this day.

The fight has been in court for several months.

If a judge finds the equipment is giving bad results, hundreds of DUI cases could be thrown out.

According to a statement issued by Scottsdale police, the lab has been accredited since 1996 and its equipment maintenance has been found to meet or exceed national standards.
