Police detectives have submitted additional charges against a man accused of luring a 5-year-old girl from a Scottsdale apartment complex Sunday night.

Mario Rivera Salgado is now facing charges of kidnapping and child molestation.

Police say the suspect saw the girl playing outside in the area of 7110 E. Continental, and lured her into his blue Dodge. He was not known to the victim or her mother.

When the girl's mother went outside to look for her daughter and she was gone, she called police. Then, a witness reported seeing the girl get into the vehicle, and that Salgado lived in the complex.

Salgado, 42, allegedly took the victim to a friend's house in Phoenix. That friend became suspicious and called police. Officers took Salgado into custody and returned the girl to her mother. The little girl was missing for more than 4 hours Sunday night.

Police believe that sex crimes took place during the kidnapping. They say it's very unusual for a child to be taken by a stranger, so it's important to talk to your kids about safety and prevention measures.
